Celestial cartography in the Adler Planetarium’s collection appears
not only in books or as works on paper, but also on instruments
in the collection, including globes.
With the support of the National Endowment of the Humanities,
the Adler partnered with Pitkin Studio to complete 360º photography of 12 significant globes in the collection using the Pitkin HELIOTRACK.
The results are nothing less than stunning.
Historic Instruments in general, and in particular spherical globes are among the most challenging objects we have documented effectively. This simple reference video shows HELIOTRACK at work and the results achieved.
